About this Help System

Last updated: 07/30/2024

This SmartScore 64 NE online Help system provides you with comprehensive, interactive and visual tools both for getting started and for quickly locating and answering any question or issue you might encounter while working with SmartScore.

How to get there …

Select the menu command ☰ HELP > SmartScore online help or …
open this website inside your browser: www.musitek.com/smartscore-online-help/midi

How SmartScore Help works

1. General

For those who are getting started, we suggest clicking here.
Have a question about a general topic (e.g. recognition, accuracy, transposition)? Use the "Search tool". All references to that topic wil show up.
For those who have a question with a specific issue or function while using SmartScore, go to the Index page. Find your issue and click on its page number.
For those who want to browse, the Table of Contents is the place to go.
At the end of each page you will find a Next Page button where you can systematically scroll forwards through the Help system.

2. Navigation

Built-in navigation aids on each page will help quickly get you to the topic you are looking for:

1
Main menu: Click on the menu icon in the top right to display the main menu. Here you will find all main chapters as well as links to the table of contents, the index, the overview of keyboard shortcuts, the search function and more. To close the menu again, either click on the button or simply click on the gray area to the left of the menu.

2
Breadcrumb navigation: Below the logo you will find the "breadcrumb navigation". This will allow you to see where you are relative to other parts of the help system. All selections are interactive. Clicking will take you to that location.

NOTE …

On smaller displays, such as mobile phones, breadcrumb and button bar (described below) may become hidden.

3
Button bar: As soon as you scroll down a help page a little, the "button bar" appears on the right edge of the browser window. Here you can jump to the top of the page, access the search function in the main menu as well as the keyboard shortcuts, the table of contents and the index.

4
Cross-references, navigation buttons: At the end of each page there will be a "See also" selection of chapters and subchapters which relate to the subject on the page. It’s a useful way to learn more about a specific topic.

In addition, you can use the keyword search to help you quickly find the information you are looking for (or to learn something new !).

3. Keyword search

You can search the entire online help system by entering a keyword. The search function is in the main menu. To get there, …

click on the menu icon at the top of the page or …
click on one of the "Search" navigation buttons.

Tips for keyword searching …

Less is more. When entering search terms, limit yourself to one or two search words. Uppercase and lowercase letters don’t matter. Press Enter on your keyboard to start search.

4. Info callouts

Inside many screenshots you may see green or brown tabs with an exclamation mark (!) or a number. Move your mouse and hover over (or tap on) any of these info callouts. A short description about the related function will appear. Try it:

Define a bounding box

The bounding box defines the area that will be scanned. Leave some room on all sides of the image.
Resolution (DPI)

Auto-resolution allows SmartScore to determine the optimum resolution for each page.

Turn off "Auto- resolution" if necessary. (300 dpi is nominal.)
Final Scan

Click to initiate scanning for the previewed page. You will have the opportunity to scan the next page.

5. Video animations

One picture tells a thousand words. We’ve included nearly 100 short video animations throughout the Smartscore NE Help system. While most of the video animations are self-explanatory, we’ve included some pop-up text within the image frame for clarity.

Click on a video to start .
When the video is finished, click it again to restart .
Click on the video while it is playing to jump to the beginning.
Click "stop" below the video to pause it.

6. Information about the scope of functions (videos/images)

A few video animations, images and screenshots in this Help system show functions or elements that are not included in the MIDI edition. Simply ignore those. Please note that the SmartScore MIDI edition can only process and create documents with a maximum of 4 systems per system.

We have provided videos or screenshots to which the above applies with the following button. You can click on this to get further information:
